Learning Curve

While my first post came too early, the feelings of being less prepared as I initially thought still rang true this week. Meeting the kids was a blast but I quickly found myself overwhelmed dealing with the class full of 7 year olds. If you've ever been a performer, you've probably experienced this feeling. For me, being an actress, no matter how many hours I've rehearsed or times I've read my script, the 30 seconds before I go on stage, my mind goes blank and I run the performance on autopilot.

I found the same to be true in teaching the children this week. I instinctively went to old habits that I've picked up from other experiences instead of the behavior management training we had last week. I think that would definitely be the most challenging part of this week, learning to navigate situations and use the appropriate tools for SuperKids and the campers in general. While some of my old tricks worked, I often had to think of new methods or combine methods in order to maintain control of the classroom.

Despite this, I am looking forward to next week and learning the best strategies to use in my classroom. I don't think it's necessarily a lack of training, because I have plenty of tools at my disposal, but there's definitely a learning curve.

  1. I went to old habits as well and had to keep reminding myself not to lol. I definitely agree that it is indeed a learning curve.

  2. Diamond- there is definitely a learning curve. It sounds like you are good at thinking on your feet and improvising. Keep up the good work!
