Honestly I didn't have too many pre-conceived notions about the youth of Baltimore prior this camp experience. Seeing as this is my 3rd year working directly with children from inner city Baltimore, I have grown accustomed to their behaviors, manners, and overall way of thinking over the years. I know more than half of these kids come from all walks of life with all kinds of experiences that we may not even be able to imagine, and I found that the most important lesson I've learned is to not judge a kid because of their experiences. A kid may come from a rough neighborhood or background, and it is my job as a counselor to be a good listener and sort of comfort these kids look forward to on a daily basis that they may not get at home. The kids need a good role model, and I try my best as a Super Kids Counselor to be the best that I can be for them.
Wherever they may come from, kids will be kids.
Dreahna- this was a really great response. Our campers need good role models and it sounds like you are being just that.
