SuperKids is by no means my first camp experience. For years I'd spend my summers under the "camp" umbrella -- first, as a camper, then later a counselor. I thought my two years experience working at "Camp Timothy" a Christian-based summer camp in my hometown would be enough to make me a near-expert at SuperKids. I have to admit, I've been humbled.
SuperKids is a summer camp like nothing I've experienced before either as a camper or a counselor. This week of training has been just that training. I'm learning so much and realizing that I have a lot left to learn. But, I'm super pumped to meet the kids on Monday and put this past week's training to work.
Not only has this past week been "training for the big leagues", preparing for the SuperKids campers, but I feel that SuperKids in its entirety is training me for something beyond that. SuperKids seems like it will really give me a taste of what educators -- particularly elementary school teachers -- go through each and every day during the school year.
With each year since my first camp counselor experience, I've considered becoming a teacher more and more. SuperKids feels like it will be the make it or break it experience in determining if teaching is the career path I want to follow. In the words of Tamar Braxton, I'm "nervexcited" to see what Monday and the following six weeks will bring.
Diamond- I am so glad that you found the training valuable! I hope you are able to use what your learned in your classroom this summer and beyond :)
